It was the brainchild of His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Yang Dipertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan of Brunei. It was built to commerate the 25th anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the throne. Named after the current Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, the centre dome is golden- plate dome where prayers are held and surrounded by four minarets also plated with golden dome. This mosque is the one of the most beautiful mosque in Brunei Darussalam. The are 29 domes totally represent the 29th Brunei Sultanate.

Located at Kampung Kiarong, 2 km from the capital of Brunei Darussalam, (Bandar Seri Begawan) Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque is the largest and the one of the most beautiful mosque in Brunei Darussalam. The mosque officially opnened on 1994.
